Manado, N Sulawesi, Jan 30 (Antara) - Tourism infrastructure in North Sulawesi needs to be further developed in order to generate higher foreign exchange, according to De La Salle Catholic University`s economic expert, Frangky Paat.
"Besides generating foreign exchange for the region, tourism can also give the local community a more prosperous life, and thus, infrastructure development should be spurred further," Franky Paat said here on Friday.
In light of this, he called on the local government and the public to pay greater attention to the tourism-supporting infrastructure to promote tourism in North Sulawesi.
"Improvement in tourism infrastructure is our common homework to do. Roads to many tourism attractions are in bad condition and need to be repaired," he noted.
He stated that the major challenge being faced by the tourism industry in North Sulawesi is the lack of proper infrastructure. In addition, he pointed out that flight connectivity from overseas countries to the province also should be improved.
"It is because most of the foreign tourists visiting North Sulawesi use air transportation, but we have to improve land and sea transportation anyways," he added.
